2011 Top 20 cities for auto theft

Car and truck thefts nationwide fell in 2011 by 3.3 percent, according to the FBI data released just last week, and thanks to a platoon of modern technology, car thieves haul off fewer vehicles today than at any point over the past two decades. But there's still more than 730,000 vehicles swiped every year -- and a new report released today pinpoints the 20 cities where thefts are most likely. If you live in California, you might want to invest in some vehicle security.
....

This year's top four cities are the same as last year's :whiste:

The thing most of those California cities have in common is they are in the Central Valley area, which is the meth capital of the nation. The methheads steal cars to buy their next fix.

I once wrote that Bakersfield is half a million unemployed people playing musical chairs with each other's Geo Metros.

Yep, methhead capitals.

Heh...I've lived in 6, 13 and 20. When I lived in Phoenix I'm sure it was top 20 at the time. My cars have been broken into a couple of times, stolen stereos and such, but never stolen. I did have a house guests car stolen when I was living in Oakland. Seeing Washington on the list a few times is surprising, but probably related to the meth hotspots you guys are talking about.

I lived most of my younger years in fresno and I'm not surprised it's #1.

Located in meth capital - check
large poplulation of low income minorities - check
large number of youths in gangs - check

If you ever lived there it's almost a certainty that you'll personally know someone who had their car stolen or broken into at one time.

Every god damn time yahoo makes these lists, being poverty, smog and now this list, bakersfield is right on that list.

Does not shock me about the poverty,i had my car 2 weeks ago loaded with 4 kids parked near my house and out of no where some random guy boldly asks me if i got a extra beer, its now become a household joke with all my friends.

Do any of you have a extra beer?I will skip all the bs about the extra change and just come out and ask it LOL

I see an Acura RSX, must have realized that it wasn't a type-s after they stole it and removed the hood.

Harsh, but pretty accurate.

Meth. Meth. Meth.

Thankfully CA is extremely beautiful once you drive 30 minutes outside of any of those listed areas.
