California could become the first state to mandate all dogs and cats be sterillized.

It seems to me that this is just like gun control....it only affects the normal law-abiding people who register their dogs (and probably have them neutered already), not the lowlifes who let their unregistered, unfixed animals run around and spawn puppies everywhere.

I can understand reducing the unwanted pet population and strays, but this sounds more like a eugenics program for mixed breed pets.

Absolutely idiotic.

Think about it: 10 years from now, the irresponsible owners won't own mutts - there won't be any left in the state. The irresponsible owners will own purebreds. The purebreds don't have to be sterilized. The purebreds will run off and breed with the neighbors purebred.

Then again, this bill will also make it unaffordable for many families to even own a dog. There's a big price difference between being able to go adopt a dog from the SPCA for $50, and having to shell out $500 for a purebred. Plus, as they eliminate mixed breeds from the state, the demand for purebreds is going to go up (higher demand -> increased price.)

Question: How many unwanted animals do you think there will be if strays aren't having offspring left and right? The majority of unwanted animals I know of came about because someone didn't have their pet fixed.

All republicans need to be sterilized so they won't reproduce any more.

This state is run by the Democrats. Has been for years.

California is an example of Liberalism gone too far. The Federal government is an example of Conservatism gone too far. Both are equally dangerous and should be treated like a loaded gun IMO.

BTW-All of my pets are sterilized. I wouldn't own a cat or dog that could breed quite honestly and both of my pets are rescued.

too liberal, huh? hmm... that's an "interesting" viewpoint when one considers that we've had republican governors for something like 4 of the last 5 terms (including right now), it is expressly against state law for gays to marry, and we have counties where nearly every adult has a CCW.

You have a common but misguided opinion of what constitutes "liberal." But then again, so does Jules, but just in another way. He thinks that liberalism is populism, and you think that liberalism is progressivism. It's neither. So you're both right in your talking points, but wrong in your choice of labels.
