As a result, the City Council of this Orange County suburb had been scheduled to vote next week on a proposed law that would have banned the use of foam containers at city-sponsored events.

Didn't that happen a couple years ago when some radio station in, hmm...Colorado, pulled a prank about dihydrogen monoxide being in the water reservoir?

Didn't Penn & Teller or someone do an episode showing how stupid a lot of the activists are... they'll sign up for just about any cause... At least some show did it, I remember watching all the activists signing a petition to ban dhm. They looked really stupid - it exposed how many of them just want to join a cause, regardless of their level of knowledge about the cause.

a radio station here in KC pulled the same thing about a 1 year ago, the city council sent them a bill for having to deal with all the irrate citizens calling asking what was wrong with the water. one of the talk radio stations wanted the DJ's that did it fired

I heard this same story (I do not know if California was involved) approximately 10 years ago in undergrad Chemistry.

The measure has been pulled from the agenda, although Norman said the city may still eventually ban foam cups.

"Our main concern is with the Aliso Creek watershed," Norman said. "If you get Styrofoam into the water and it breaks apart, it's virtually impossible to clean up."
Beautiful example of political CYA. See we weren't really wrong!
