I dont care if they want the same rights, I just dont want it called marriage. I have nothing against gays, I'm just old fashioned and want "marriage" to be man + woman. Call it a partnership or whatever

That's stupid.

Voting yes when the ballot comes in the mail later this year. This is ridiculous. How about we use the tax dollar for something more useful like hiring more teachers...

This admittedly simple internet poll shows an overwhelming majority support the right for gay marriage.

So why is it that when these anti-gay ballot measures appear on the ballot they are all winning across the country?

I will tell you why. Most of us are too lazy or apathetic to actually go out to vote.

The next ballot measure in California calls for a California Constitutional Amendment to limit the scope of marriage to only a man or woman.

You can bet the Christian church movement and other conservative organizations in California are organizing to gain votes to support this measure. That is a large organizational structure that is gearing up to prolong this battle.

Its up to the apathetic to get off their lazy butts and vote against this from happening. How in the world do we make that happen?

Because "across" the country it is overwhelmingly conservative. Also, those who typically vote are older generations. Older generations are more typically religious and attend church. Church often acts as political forum for issues like these to get the people out to vote.

If there were weekly forums attended by large numbers of younger, liberal-minded people who were "sermoned" to about getting out and voting "for what's right", then things might be different.....I dunno, it's just a thought.

I can't think of a single reason why two consenting adults should not be allowed to marry.

+1

I would take it a step further and say that I can't think of any reason why any group of consenting adults can't marry each other (why limit to two?)

Ridicule me if thats your style, at least I'm man enough not to resort to childish insults. I gave my view and I'll stick to it. I have as much right to my opinion as you, but I dont feel the need to put you down when expressing mine

They are allowed to marry here in MA and so far there hasn't been one problem arising from it. In fact nobody even bothers talking about it because it's turned into such a non issue.

I think the next step by California religious and conservative movements is to get a ballot measurement to change the California Constitution to state that marriage is between a man and a woman.

My church pastor pimped out the signature drive during a sermon recently.

I almost walked out. I am seriously reconsidering going back to that church.

??? Becsue gays getting married is causing so much pain, grief, problems in your life, etc..?
No not so much about gays. I'm not gay and I don't care what a gay person wants to do in his or her life just as long as thier rights are equal to mine and vice versa.

My ire is directed over using the California Consitution to limit rights of a minority group.

WHAT? This ruling is not limiting the rights, its giving them the rights they should have had the whole time.

So we should get your pastor to change it...?

Wow. You are seriously misreading Marlin's comments, and I'm surprised he didn't notice that earlier. Marlin is commenting that his pastor is advocating a signature drive to REPEAL this ruling. This is what is pissing Marlin off.

Seriously, re-read his comment that I've bolded....or do you consider heterosexuals the minority within a homosexual country? that would be....interesting 😛

Or L&R, if you were there for that epic.

Yes, that thread was shamfeul. Made me see a lot of posters in a different, unflattering light.

You misread both of his posts... and I'm not quite sure how. Put away the Jump to Conclusions mat. 😉 He's pissed that his pastor supports changing the CA constitution to limit the rights of gay people. Get it?

No I got that, but now he is saying..."I am seriously reconsidering going back to that church" since it will be legal for gays to get married in CA.

His pastor wants to prevent gays from getting married in CA, and because of that he does not want to go back to that church.

lol...don't know how he misread that in the first place.
