California about to bust you for tax evasion

Technically these are taxes you should be paying already and would be paying if you bought locally

Bullshit, States are expressly forbidden to tax interstate commerce. Renaming it a "use tax" to try and skirt the law is also bullshit. It's too bad our courts are too pussy to slap this crap down like they should.

Not our courts, California's. I know its hard for people living in California to understand, but most people don't live in California.

And if you do live in California, you expect this sort of thing. It comes with living there, the same as living in the midwest means brutal winters.

Good. People are supposed to pay a use tax when they manage to dodge a sales tax. The majority don't. That puts the tax burden on the honest citizens, while the rest are tax evaders. I hope they go after everyone who didn't pay taxes on total purchases over $1000, and on top of the tax, assess them a penalty for evading the taxes.

Yeah. If I'm going to have to suffer then everyone has to suffer!!!

Seriously, I think that's the wrong approach. Instead of pleading with your torturer to torture your fellow countrymen, you should fight against the torture.

Yes, OUR courts, as this is something that could fall into federal jurisdiction. That, and the fact that nearly every state has some sort of "use tax" now.

umm, no, interstate commerce requires that they don't impose discriminatory taxes on interstate commerce. as long as the same taxes apply both for interstate and intrastate commerce, they can tax away.

This

Why does anyone live in that state to start with? The government milks he people, and gives benefits to illegal immigrants.
Not just illegal immigrants. States from all over the union poach California educated students because they underfund their higher education institutions. Texas, for example.

It seems like if I should pay sales tax to any state when buying online, I should be paying it to the state the business I bought it from resides in. Not my own state. Otherwise it seems a lot more like a tariff on "imports" from other states. And as we all know, tariffs are horrible and will destroy the economy unless a large lobby group supports them in which case they're OK.

Not true. The Fed, through the Commerce Clause, has decreed that States cannot collect taxes on internet sales as interstate commerce but has allowed that the States are free to levy taxes on internet sales.

At some point the Fed will be collecting State sales taxes on online purchases, skimming a bit off the top for "costs incurred", then distributing the revenue to the states through exchanges formed by the Uniform Sales and Use Tax Compact.

Bunch of entitled little whiners that "it's not fair that I pay the taxes I'm obligated to pay!" Fuck 'em.

There is a big difference between failing to pay tax and tax evasion. Any evasion charge is going to be nigh difficult to prove. They'd get the tax and interest.

lol you're comparing overreaching fascist government with the weather?

If I read the article right, you have to spend $5000+ before this would com into play. how many actually spend that much on-line in one year? I know I don't even com close.

I think many do. I know I spend well over 5k. B&M fixed costs are so much higher you'd be a fool to buy B&M vs out of some warehouse with a website in BFE.

Last year I probably did, and I live in CA. Uh-oh.

I go out of my way to avoid paying sales tax, they already take over 30% of my mother fucking paycheck. They aren't getting another 10% if I can help it.

Get no deductions on my taxes. Don't have kids I can't afford to support, no welfare, no food stamps, no EBT, no unemployment or whatever the fuck else people get that pay probably less than 10% of what my income taxes are a year.

Illegal immigration costs taxpayers over 1 billion a year in Los Angeles alone. Getting an extra billion in revenue from sales tax is not the solution.
