He's a legend here. Especially after he was sued for supporting Team Anandtech by installing the distributed computing client as a screen saver on the school computers he administered. We rallied to his defense for years. He's also responsible for the long-running employment thread we used to have. Things like this are just silly little hiccups.

These things are not hiccups....they are evidence of his psychosis.

Most people I know in CA would sleep through a 6.5.

What will really suck for them is when (not if) an 8.9 hits. Japan has some of best earthquake resistant building technologies and they use them. I'd expect that if it hit an area of CA with like population density, the casualties would be a hundred times greater or more.

Won't be pretty.

We have great earthquake resistant buildings as well. It's not like we don't prepare for quakes. The biggest thing to worry about is similar to what happened in New Orleans after Katrina, the ghetto people killing and looting and the aftermath would be entirely different.

lol, more dave stupidity. This guy couldn't predict the sun setting.

How about those bridge pilings being disrupted by an earthquake causing the MSP bridge collapse, Dave?

How about that lawsuit against AT?

Why would any of us defend him for that? He deserved to get sued and he damn well should have known better not to appropriate vast quantities of his employer's resources for his own personal use.

Unused CPU cycles during idle? This was a time when the system without load still drew nearly as much power as under load. Also, he was in charge and was allowed to make those kinds of decisions until they suddenly decided to sue him for hundreds of thousands of dollars or something like that. It was ridiculous. You should read the story.

I've read the story and I still think Dave was exorbitantly in the wrong here. He misappropriated large amounts of university resources for his personal use which certainly falls outside of his authority. End of story. This amounts to an increase in costs due to bandwidth, electricity, cooling and reduced lifetime of the systems (and they do use them to their death. I've got a PIII in our office that they use to run the scanner). We make the same kind of arguments when we arrest and sue spammers.

his own personal use.

That's where you suck ass

Are you using the Internets right now?

Do you see that lock on the lower right when you go to a secure part of a site?

That's called RSA encryption and that is what was being tested by thousands of people all over the world using all kinds of computer configurations.

No one was doing it for "personal use". Grow a brain

That's as bad as the guys in here that say clouds don't travel a thousand miles.

It's one fully connected planet.

Earthquakes don't travel on clouds dude. Your earthquake wasn't even measured on the same continental plate.

It doesn't count when a predicted event happens on:

1. The opposite side of the ocean and
2. Is thousands of times greater in magnitude than the prediction.

Japan was not the earthquake you predicted.

I don't care how connected the planet is you can't bet on Pittsburgh and claim victory when Green Bay wins 'because they're an NFL franchise... they're related!' and you called it.

You were running it on behalf of the Anandtech Folding Team. That is personal use. If you wanted to run Folding at Home on YOUR EMPLOYER'S computers you should have put together a proposal giving an estimate in the costs and explaining that, for example, by running it in the name of your employer you could be giving them positive advertising by their ranking.

Instead, you decided to use YOUR EMPLOYER'S resources to benefit and ADVERTISE an unaffliated company. I certainly would not want my tuition and taxes being spent on something like that and it appears that your employer agreed. Good on them I say.

At this point I don't give a damn. I"m not the one that got fired. I"m not the one that got sued. I'm not the one that has been jumping around across the country from job to job. I'm not the one making bat shit crazy predictions that I have to grasp at imaginary straws to try and justify.

But you among legions of the jealous, perhaps a mirror could soothe your soul.

Also your facts are all screwed up but not surprising coming from someone so obviously self centered selfish.

Yes. I am so jealous of your financial ruin and the resulting slow descent into dementia.

I has a better prediction machine:

California will be hit by a 7.2 mag earthquake this Monday, and a 7.8+ near Chile by the end of the following week.

Can I have some free pizza now? A prophet gotta eat... :p

Dave is worse than a ouija board. As somebody posted before, he's a blind mind throwing darts. The guy really has no idea what he's talking about but loves to go on here to look "cool".

He's avoiding the minneapolis bridge collapse because it's yet another reason why he was wrong.
