HOLA!

I am enrolled in a calc class and have had the unfortunate luck of having a teacher that has no idea how to teach. I sit in the class and take notes for the entire period, and I think I'm golden. When we get our homework assignments however, they are nothing like what he has taught. The worst part is that they're graded, thats where someone here comes in. If anyone here is very good at calc (we're doing differentation and natural logs on this section) and would want to help me out, I could make it worth their while. Maybe not cash, but a free email account on my server, a free web page/logo design from my company, etc etc. Reply here or PM me and we can work something out.. Thanks!

I'm sorry, but I cannot commit myself to something like that.

However, there are ways you can help yourself: 1) Determination to succeed; 2) Your school more than likely offers a free tutoring program. Take advantage of the offer; 3) You don't even need a tutor if you're determined to learn. Just consult with your textbook or other textbooks.

I had experience with teachers whose tests or homeworks didn't reflect what they taught. But having consulted with my textbooks helped me immensely. Again, there is tutoring service offered. Exploit it and appreciate it.

Perhaps someone else here can commit himself (or herself), but I cannot be of assistance to you.

Luvly,

Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately the book doesn't cover the sort of questions that the teacher asks. In theory they do, but he usually puts a slant on them that makes them a bit difficult to relate. I don't think my performance in his class is due to my lack of desire, as 90% of the students in that class share my opinion :p

It's okay, Raw Output. I'll give you the benefit of doubt. Why not try your school's tutoring program then? I'm sure there's one offered. I hope someone here can actually help you, for I know what it is like with terrible professors who bring external materials out of scope. . . .

Best of luck with your endeavour. :)

When I started calc, it was very difficult because I had a very similar teacher. I didn't have any idea how to do the questions on the tests. I asked one of the other teachers for a different perspective, and in 2 hours (2 days at lunch), I had gone from a 10% understanding to a 95% understanding. I re-took a test that originally took me 2.5 hrs to get a 60% on, and completed it in 30 minutes with a 100% mark (it wasn't exactly the same, but was equivalent).

Just get another teacher to give you a different perspective on how to view the questions. After I did, calc was my easiest class.

rawoutput, I'm sure that if you post a problem here, many will be pleased to help you. Also, what textbook are you using? Textbooks are usually better that notes from a bad teacher. I really recommend James Stewart's calculus textbooks. Very well and clearly written, with a lot of examples and problems from child's play to very difficult. I've been tutoring math and physics for quite a few years, and it's still my favourite textbook to use.
