Calculating PSU Amperage

Aside from buying one of those amp gauges that you can put in between the wall an your computer, any idea on how to calculate the amperage a PSU will use?

I have some servers that have nothing more than 350 watt power supply, LGA775 Mobo, and SATA hdd in them. The ups says it uses 85watts, how would I figure out the amperage? I don't want to blow out the circuit breaker is why I'm asking.

Amperage is measured seperately for each voltage, so you'd need to measure all the different ones, 12v, 5v, 3.3v mostly. If you mean the actual power socket, which is 120v in the us, all you need to do is take the wattage and divide it by 120.

Wattage = Voltage x Amperage.

Voltage = Wattage / Amperage

Amperage = Wattage / Voltage.

So in your example. 85 Watts / 120V = 0.708 Amps. This is being drawn from the UPS by the PC.
