sectors x bytes/sector (typically 512bytes)
divide that by 1024 for KB's divide again by 1024 for MB's divide again by 1024 for GB's
 
Sectors are the smallest storage block on a hard drive. They're like clusters in a file system. Count all of them, multiply that by their capacity and you have total capacity.
