i coudln't get into compsci either... depressing... yes... 🙁

i think a lot of cs programs need to readjust their admission criterea... i think too many people that just have high grades get in, while some people that really love computer science are rejected because they didnt' do so well in some other classes.

but i'm not sure that i'd kill myself.

Isn't there a cs in engineering that's not eecs?

And Evans because that's where all the real L&S majors are...Math, Physics, Stat, Econ, CS...you don't hear about anything in Moses cuz when was the last time you saw a stressed-out philosophy major?

I think so, but as I understand it, it's pretty exclusive. You can't get in if you aren't in engineering already. L&S CS everyone can apply for, but only the most pyschotic can get in. While I was at cal, you needed a 3.7 GPA in the core classes to get in. Everyone else became a cogsci major. >>



actually many people have gotten in with 3.0-3.4

clearly... i'm still hopeful that i'll get into the cs program next time i apply, or that some other school will take me, but even if i don't... i think there's plenty in life to be enjoyed that isn't dependant on being a cs major. it's depressing to get rejected, but that's why you get pissed off and decide you're going to succeed, with or without a cs degree.
 

All these people who think their lifes suck and isn't going anywhere should try to be me for a few days.. but I don't think about suicide because I know there's lots of people who's life suck even more and would pay to be me. I try to be happy for what I have.
 
This is terrible, and certainly not a reason to kill oneself! The real problem is that there is way too much pressure on us college kids nowadays from society, our parents, even ourselves. Sit back, relax, and hug a nerd.
 
Well, he lived in Le Chateua, which is a co-op, so there is a 99.99% chance he was heavily involved with drugs, so that probably played a part in it. Also, I get depressed just thinking about Evans with its classes with no windows. None of the professors in there give a damn about anything but their reputations. I hated taking classes there. The only good Professor I had was an Associate Professor and they wouldn't give him tenure. Now that I think about it, the people in that building are probably the least personable and sympathetic of any group of people I've encountered.

I was a math major at Cal Berkeley. I graduated in 1995.

Interesting...the one cog-sci major I know is also most conceited in regard to intelligence--here at Cal
