Cal-Stanford Big Game 2007: 13-20 Stanford?

I got back from Stanfurd earlier.
Disgusting game.
1) Hawkins wasn't holding onto the ball.
2) WTF was that pass protection. OFFENSE LINE HELLO? How many sacks was that today? There were tons of times when Longshore just threw it away or completely misthrew because of those pressure/near-sacks.
Longshore sucked this game, but not that badly. He totally sucked at the USC game and the UCLA game. Washington he was decent but the rest of our team was just WTF plus injuries.
3) PLAYCALLING. COME ON TEDFORD, GROW A LEFT NUT.
Way to finish my senior year at Cal. LOSE the big game, get the worst bowl game in all of my 4 years here.
Honestly, I think I'm just bitter because of my first year. Aaron Rodgers. #4 ranked up until the end after getting jacked by TEXASS for the Rose Bowl, near perfect season with a loss to U$C where we clearly outplayed them up till the last drive... Meh. I guess there's always next year, but seroiusly..... this WAS the year to hit the national championship.

Yeah, down here (LA) everyone keeps talking about how disappointing UCLA's season was, and my first thought is always "Cal's was at least twice as disappointing."

I didn't follow Cal closely enough to comment on the rest of the season, but especially towards the end of the game his play calling was so predictable it was pathetic ... Stanford knew every play was going to be a pass & just before the last interception all I was thinking was shock them & try a running play ... sure enough Stanford had THREE guys on the line (!!!) & a simple halfback draw would have gone for 8-10 yards easily ... but its another pass & we know how things worked out from then on.
Nevermind gutless, the play calling in that game was talentless.
Beats me. They had NC prospects, yet they managed to squander it by going on an unbelievable losing streak. First to OSU, and people were still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. But they just seemed to DIE after that. WTF gives? They beat Oregon and Tennessee, so how the F did the rest ensue? Granted, they didn't have Jackson or Best today, but cmon, its stanford!!
what happened to desean jackson? espn hyped him after week 1 for the heisman then i didn't hear anything about him afterwards.
Yeah, they completely lost it after the Oregon game. People here have covered a lot of the problems, but I think another was how after the aggrivating lost to Oregon State they went to play an unusually good playing UCLA and also blew that at the last second. The next week they went to Arizona state and further blew it. All of this translated into a complete lack of confidence leading the team to completely implode.
It's a very very disappointing season, easily the most out of any college team this year. Just look at the sort of talent they have. Hawkins and Jackson are considered two of the best recievers in the country and their talents were completely wasted. Desean Jackson will probably be one of the top 10 guys taken in the draft next year. If you don't believe me, look at some of the clips from the Tennessee and Oregon games.
I think playcalling is justifiably the main problem as everyone here is saying. I remember when I was at the UCLA game after a quarter or two I could even hear the UCLA fans saying "ok they'll run the first 3 plays and throw a circus catch to desean." It was really really predictable and conservative. Something that completely works against the explosive offense you should run when you have such awesome playmakers.
And yeah, Longshore too. The only close game he ever won was against Oregon. In 2006 when they were on a roll and beating teams by 20 most games he was never put in a situation of pressure, allowing them to do so well. Come many of the close games this year, he completely breaks down, tosses INT's, and always loses it. There's no point in having a QB if he isn't going to be clutch and can only handle games within his control.

Before the injury, he tossed two INTs total in five games (both of which occurred in blowouts).
After the injury, he threw INTs in six consecutive games, including three games of two INTs and one with three INTs.
In four games after the injury, he threw more INTs than TDs. In one game after the injury, he threw three TDs, but he also threw three INTs that game, including the game-killer.

Cal fans have grown to be spoiled with the Tedford's success, many "fans" don't remember the Tom Holmoe years. (We went 1-10 the year before Tedford showed up). All in all, 6-6 is a little disappointing, but it's not the end of the world. There's always next year.
i was at the cal/usc game, i have to say longshore is pretty bad, i hate booty but seeing longshore makes me feel not so bad about booty
Well he started the season fine, then he was injured. After he came back though, he was just never the same.
