I'm looking into making my own preworkout. Just tired of buying the stuff that comes will a lot of extra junk. Planning on using caffeine, beta-alanine, and creatine. Should I get caffeine powder and measure it out myself or go pills? I'd like the option of powder so that I can change the amount I have each day to how I feel. But I see warnings everywhere about overdosing on powder. If I have a digital scale that weighs to the .001 of a gram will I be alright?

Go with pills, powder is really easy to screw up. I'm talking about the caffeine only, the other stuff is perfectly fine and much cheaper in powder form.

I take creatine on it's own (it isn't some instant effect you get, it saturates the cells over time) and drink a cup of tea about 30 mins before I lift for the mild caffeine in it.

I'd also go pills though if that's the route you wanted to head.

creatine monohydrate of course. That stuff is amazing. I noticed it's effects a lot when running. Ya, it's one of those supplements that you have to take a for a few days for the effects to start to take hold.

Do you drink coffee? That's my pre-workout. Getting up at 5am and working out at 530am is difficult without it. I checked a couple of websites and the caffeine content ranges from 95-200mg per 8oz cup. I add about a tbsp of local honey, half a tbsp of grass-fed butter and about 4oz of whole milk.

After looking around more I think pills is the way to go. Still just as cheap but takes the guessing game out of it.

You might just make a preworking out and then pop a No Doze or something for the caffeine boost.

And, I believe you have to take a lot of caffeine to OD.

Creatine monohydrate, if you don't front load, takes around 2 weeks to fully saturate your cells. Taking just a few grams for a few days in a row, was probably placebo affect or maybe a tad bit of an improvement.

I do 100% agree though, everybody who is serious about lifting or sports in general should be taking it (men and women).

I think it's like, 100+ cups worth lol. I read about it before when I was researching caffeine, but I forget the exact amount. Basically, impossible to do unless you're actually trying to.

As for the creatine, Ive been on that for a long time already. I just plan on adding it to my pre on the days I lift. Will still take by itself on off days.

Sixguns - Walmart sells caffeine pills near the pharmacy section. The one I buy is called jet alert.

OP I know you said you're tired of buying Pre's with tons of extra junk. I bought MAN PepTest yesterday at Vitamin Shoppe, imho a really solid profile that's pretty basic.

COMPOUNDED TESTOSTERONE PUMPS 3620 Mg
D-ASPARTIC ACID 3120 Mg
AGMATINE SULFATE 500 Mg

IR ENERGY BLEND 717 Mg

(CAFFEINE ANHYDROUS (400MG), LEAN GREEN GREEN TEA SE (90% CATCHINS, 60% EGCG), NELUMBO NUCIFERA (SEED) EXTRACT, (STANDARDIZED FOR HIGENAMINE, HORDEUM VULGARE (SEED) EXTRACT, (STANDARDIZED FOR HORDENINE), DI-CAFFEINE MALATE (50MG), COCOA PLANT (EXTRACT), RAUWOLSCINE)

Add 5g of any Creatine and you would have a real solid Pre. I'm stim tolerant to a fault, I took this yesterday and felt it. I saw it had a few things I've never seen in a Pre and didn't recognize at all. I Googled

What is Dicaffeine Malate?

Originally used by Coca Cola as an alternative to cocaine, DiCaffeine Malate is a stimulant-based ingredient used in colas and dietary supplements. DiCaffeine Malate claims to be more effective and easier to stomach than caffeine.

This had me pretty energetic, which is really saying something. And somehow MAN got it to taste almost exactly like you're drinking a liquid version of Sour Patch Kids. Of course to a lot of people 400mg of Caffeine at once would be way too much, and that's not even factoring in the rest of the energy blend.
