Caddyshack is a stupid movie.

I just barely watched Caddyshack for the first time ever. Why is this movie so popular? It's mostly unfunny, the characters are stupid, and...well... I guess it was just an opportunity to cash in on the popularity of the Saturday Night Live actors (Chevy Chase, Bill Murray)

When the funniest character in your movie is Rodney Dangerfield playing a basic variation of himself, well, you've got problems.
When the so-called attractive woman in your movie is the nerdy chick from Tron, you've got more problems.
When the funniest gag in your movie is a poop joke, well, you've got major problems.

I'm not one that likes to spell out his reasoning, but suffice to say, it was a major disappointment. :(

Okay, I did laugh at that line... I guess I was expecting non-stop laughs considering how supposedly beloved the movie is. Instead, the laughs came few and far between.

I have to agree - I saw it for the first time a year or two ago and must say it failed to meet expectations... Of course you have to realize how doped up everybody was back when it first came out.

How about:

"I've got to crawl in this guy's head. I must act like a gopher, think like a gopher, and look like one".
"The best part about it is you can play 18 holes on it, then get stoned as hell off of it." It's a mix of Kentucky Blue Grass and Sensimilla".
"It's good stuff, I got it from Negroes".
"I've sent boys younger than you to the electric chair"
"People don't say that about you as far as you know"
I've got a pool and a pond. The pond's good for you".

C'mon, that movie was hilarious. Maybe the generation gap is rearing it's ugly head, but I remember taking my girlfriend to that movie when it came out, what was it, like 1979 or 1980?

Caddyshack is kinda like the 80's version of Office Space. Everybody can recite atleast one quote from that movie. ;)

And ANOTHER thing -- Office Space is also overrated. Sure, the actual office parts were quite funny, but everything else (Jennifer Aniston and Deidrich Bader's characters, for example) was just boring and unnecessary. It's definitely worth watching, but it's not the Holy Grail of must-see movies like everybody insists it is.

/edit sorry if I sound negative. I'm a huge critic when it comes to my movies! :)

Caddyshack is HILARIOUS!!!

"It's in the HOOOOOOOOOLE!!"
"You beast, you savage...come on bark like a dog for me!"

Caddyshack is an 80's classic right up there with Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Back to the Future, and Ferris Beuller's Day Off :D

If you can't find humour in this move, go buy a fuggin' funny bone or somethin'

Yeah -- that's why I said the office parts were funny. The annoying secretary was right on the money. I even work with a guy who looks like and acts exactly like the Michael Bolton character. I swear, the same downsizing consultants that were in the movie have been to my company before. The commute part at the beginning had me roaring. There was lots of funny stuff that make it worth watching, but it still didn't make me say, "wow, that was so hilarious, I just gotta tell the world about this movie!" Austin Powers, Meet the Parents, and Bowfinger are examples of comedies that had me in a great mood all throughout the movie. :)

heh speaking of Snow Dogs I remember when my sister rented that DVD and then was all pissed off because she thought the whole movie was about talking dogs. ;)

Back to the topic at hand... I still say ANYBODY who has ever worked in a corporate environment and has any sense of humor at all should like Office Space. It's funny because it's true.
