Does having more on-die cache make a big difference. Would a 450MHz Xeon with 2 MB be faster than a 667 Mhz Xeon with 256K. Is that 667MHz Xeon with 256K decent for a private work station?
With the present technology we have now... the on-die cache makes all the difference in the world!! The bigger.. the better, and faster. That's all there is to it. The less the cpu has to wait or idle for more data, the better. And i'm pretty sure any cpu with a 2MB L1/L2 cache would cost a limb. Would the 2MB 450 be faster? I would say yes... it would at least be as comparable as the 667 with only 256k.
