Cable???

Uh, do you actually get cable TV service? If not, then I don't see how as they are able to block services you don't pay for. Now if you actually do get cable TV service then sure, plug that thing in and watch away

I know for @home in my area you have to be subscribed to at least basic cable T.V. service to get it.

Sorry man, A) In order to get the ACtual Cable modem service like CRV said you will need at least basic service they need some kinds of cable running inside your house. B)Even say if somehow they put cable line in there without you paying for basic cable understand that the cable service you are getting basically has to "release" those channels if you wanna think it that way kind of how they can "release" HBO SHowtime etc, will they gotta release those channels to your area, so your ATI video card cant pick up something that just doesnt simply exist in its little word.

even if the cable company did give you a modem without tv service... they would put a "trap" on the line blocking all the "cable" channels usually everything from 20-30 and up🙂

i should know i do it all the time🙂

now that i have re-read your question... no... you can't get cable tv thru your modem itself.... that just does data... you would have to get a splitter from the tech that installs it....

thats assuming he's not in a bad mood.. and or you have enough signal🙂

Actually a couple of my friends signed up for cable modem and said they weren't interested in even basic cable. When the line was installed they found they had basic cable and they are only getting billed for the cable modem. Most of my friends don't watch much TV anyways but we found it semi humorous. It seems like some cable providers do not have the ability to only provide cable modem service with out providing at least basic cable.
