Cable vs. Satellite

Cable is definitely ahead of DirecTV at the moment for HDTV. The only true HD I can get with DirecTV at the moment is the 4 local networks, the other "HD" channels are something less (maybe EDTV?). Also the new 5 LNB dish is a major PITA to get lined up and working correctly unless you actually get a diligent installer that takes the time to do everything right. I have been a enthusiastic DirecTV customer since 1997 but my experiences over the past 2 months after trying to get the HD service going have frustrated me. I ended up having to buy the satellite meter and redo it all myself. Have a look over at AVSForum.com in the HDTV reception hardware area for lots of info on all the different services.

Love my DirecTV. have a 3 LNB dish, 2 recievers (1 is Tivo). My recievers are getting info from 3 satellites and it never drops. Even during the storms in Atlanta this weekend it kept signal.

Unfortunately I do have a horrible BellSouth DSL connection. Fastest I can order is 1.5, and I only get 600 kbps with it due to distance from CO.

I hate Comcast but I might have to put in a cable internet connection and let work pay more for my internet connection. Going from 600k to 6m sounds good to me.

But DirecTV has been great.

Where I live, the cable sucks hard, no digital and no internet. My only option was for Verizon DSL (3.0/768) and satellite.

I've had Dishnetwork for 7+ years w/ no problems with the service or receivers. If you have to call for any reason (for me usually upgrades) the CSR's are clueless and untrained. If your looking at satellite and want HD, go with Dish. Right now I'm getting 26 HD channels (including local networks) through Dish. I have the latest HD DVR with On Demand(Vip 622). Like I said, I like Dish Network except when i have to talk to the clueless CSR's.

Have had Verizon DSL for over a year ($29.99) and only had one issue with service.

$29.99 internet
~$80 TV
= $110 per month for both.
