For those that have cable TV and cable internet...does it matter what kind of splitter I put on there? I seem to get different answers from everyone. 2.4ghz or 900mhz?

You get different answers because it depends on the situation. You might need a 900 because the 2.4 would be too strong and you might need the 2.4 because the 900 might be too weak. It all depends on how many times it's already been split, what the other splitters are, what you're running on the splitter (combination of multiple tv's a cable modem), how many times you're going to split it, how many feet of cable on either side of the splitter, blah blah blah.

I'd recommend trying the 2.4GHz first if those two choices are the only choices you have.

Thanks for the in-depth. Outside the walls, the line is only being split once...don't have a clue other than that. I thought 900mhz and 2.4ghz were my only two options. If there is something better than those 2, please let me know.

I think it's the frequency... It depends on the frequency that cable uses. I don't know what that is.

You best bet will be to split the difference. Get a 1.65 splitter, its juuust strong enough to handle a 2.4 signal (if your run is short) and juuust weak enough to be used on 900 stuff.

A 900MHz splitter won't work period. Have installed plenty of cable lines and modems. Need at least a 1000 splitter

Feh. Give me your address and I'll mail you a splitter that will actually work.

Or just stop a cable guy on the street, beat the crap out of him, and steal a spitter from his vehicle. :D (no, don't do that)

<-- works for the evil cable company. :p

You need a 1000 Mhz splitter, not sure why they would come out with a 2.4 ghz, the only thing on a cable line that high is satellite stuff and you can't split it:D

Anyway, if you get the 2.4, make sure it doesn't cutoff the lower frequencys, the 900 will work for regular cable but not completely positive on digital (we carry 1000 mhz so not sure on the extra 100 mhz).

Good Luck
