Cable TV without audio??

They hooked up our cable today, and in my room, I get static instead of audio. The jack in the living room has working sound. What is the deal? How is this even possible? I thought everything was transmitted together.

on newer tvs that are plugged into recievers, there is a switch that says 'disable tv speakers' try that...its usually on the back

On a normal analog cable line both audio & video signals are modulated together. They are seperated in the IF stages within the TV...

Any snowyness in the picture?

Check the on-screen configuration on the 2nd TV, make sure the cable settings are correct, you can choose between AIR, STD, HRC, IRC. These are all different signal types. If this option is set incorrectly weird things can happen.

Most likely it should be set to STD although some cable providers use the other signal types. You can check your working set for correct settings.

You could also have a problem within the TV with audio trouble. Have you run the set on a cable signal recently?

Autoprogram the set too, just to be thorough

EDIT: n/m you are using a TV tuner card... ....disregard all i just said... but still check your settings

There is a little snow, more on some channels than others. I think that's just the low quality cable though. There is no way to change those settings. These are the settings that worked before, but they reconnected our cable today.

You probably need to have your cable provider out. One last thing to try would be hook up your TV that works to your cable line with the static, isolate the problem.

My cable provider (comcast) will service a problem like that free of charge, YMMV

I'm a tv technician.. alot of problems like this can be on the cable provider's end of things, especially if they just reconnected you

on my tv tuner there was a setting between "cable" cand "cable hrc" or something like that. i had to set it to cable hrc to get everything peachy.
