Cable TV on my computer monitor?

I start college in a couple weeks. I was thinking about getting a TV for my dormroom. Money and space are some concerns for me. Then I thought about the possibility of getting TV on my monitor. I've heard of it before but never actually seen it.

I'm guessing that is one of the possibilities of a all-in-wonder video card? Or are there other solutions that would work better?

What monitor would work best for this situation, a 19" CRT?

Any tips appreciated.

Thanks

You can get a pci TV card for about $50... lots of different ones available. I'm not up on them so I can't really recommend a certain one. There's also some products (I know viewsonic makes one for sure) that are like set-top boxes, allowing you to watch TV without it going through the computer. Last I checked that thing was ~$100.

If you're using a decoder box, you can get away with a video capture card (no tuner--start at about $30), or a video card with VIVO (Video In/Video Out) which should prove much cheaper and offer better selection than the AIWs. If you do need the tuner, the above advice is quite sound. Good luck!

I decided I am going to get the "Leadtek Winfast TV2000XP."

Now i've got to decide what monitor to get.

What should I look for in a monitor for gaming + cable TV? Dot pitch, Max. resolution, horizontal frequency?

I think 19" is about as big as my desk will hold.

Thanks

17in is a little too small for watching tv I find. From about 10 feet away it's too small I think. A 19in would be good. As for tuner cards, get one with a remote. I ended up getting an ATI TV Wonder VE and was kicking myself for not having a remote. Creative sells an IR remote you can buy that is supposed to work with the ATI software so I bought it but it wouldn't change channels. Worked well with Power DVD though and WinAmp though.

even my 22" is too small from 10 feet away... :)

Mikelish, get the Samsung 19" from newegg deal.
You'll love the clarity & affordability of Samsung CRT-s
