for the people who use the same company for cable tv and internet, how does the line get split? for example, cable comes in the house and is split 2 way, one for tv and the other for internet.

That's definitely not the case here in West Texas. 😛

what if you have 2 cable boxes? one box for each tv set.

Put a 3-way splitter in the attic and put the cable modem line on the lowest loss side (usually -3dB).

and then one line goes to the TV/ HDTV Cable box. and the other to the Cable modem...

DSL pwns cable. 😛

that's true here in my part of south cali

cable speeds SUCK and my friend's cable speed sucks SO much that at some times (and many times this week) he had the equivalent of like a 15k modem? except that he had so much packet loss and other stuff and many times he coudlnt even be pinged

err...sorry this is irrelavent, i'm just pissed at adelphia who sells us overpriced cable internet (little over $50/mo) at ADVERTISED speeds of 3000/256 when they can't delivered jack shit

i HATE THEM!

When the guy was here to do the installation, he put some splitter in the box; I'm not sure if it was a special low-loss splitter or what. But he then ran a new cable right from that splitter to the wall plate in my room downstairs, right near the cable modem.
