I've been reading about doing cables for a while, doing research and everything else. I just got my first kit, and I've messing around with it, and I just wanted to let anyone who was ever wondering this, using a lighter works just fine. I kind of regret that I actually bought a heat gun (albeit only for $25) now, but oh well. Hope this helps someone out...

i always was a fan of heat guns myself though.... in my opinion it is easier to handle

I agree, and they are less dangerous to the cable to use as well (my reason for getting one), but a lighter can be used.

Are you guys talking about heating the tips of the weaved sleeving itself or shrinking the heatshrink? For the heatshrink a hair dryer works well too.
