Cable select

To use the cable select jumper option on a hard drive, do you need a cable that says "cable select" on the cable?

I have been using the CS option with 2 Seagate IDE hard drives, one shown as master, and one was slave in the BIOS. I can install windows fine, and everything will boot up and work as normal for a good while.

But, the drives keep getting NTLDR errors (happened 3 times now) after installing programs, or after putting large files on the drive. Boss says it is because you have to have special cables for CS to work properly. (Something about pin 18?)

How likely is that?

Some drives dont even work unless they are on the primary, and there is another drive there with it. Kind of a pain in the arse.
