Cable Select or ?????

olds

Elite Member
I have one hdd and I am adding another. Both will be on their own seperate ide channels. Right now the jumper for the new hdd (10 pin) is on cable select, the old hdd is on master. From this diagram it looks like master for the new hdd is selected by not using any jumpers. How should I set the new hdd?
Old hdd is a Maxtor 40GB 7200
New hdd in a WD1200JB
Thanks

I would use the Single (Neutral Position) just so I wouldn't lose the jumper. But if you got a stash of jumpers somewhere just throw that bad boy in there and forget about it. That's what I get from the diagram anyways. 😀

Set it to cable select and then use the location to tell it to be master or slave.

assuming you are using an ata 66/100/133 cable

motherboard = blue
Grey = slave
black = master
