my isp is currently having some problems due to weather lately. not surprisingly, my connection has suffered. it drops in and out randomly and i get high ping spikes in games like diablo2 and warcraft3. this has started in the last week or 2.
now, i called comcast and they told me to bypass the router and connect directly to the modem. i played about 30 min of warcraft and suffered no lag or disconnects. so, im assuming the problem is with the router. are there any other tests i should do? is it the router for sure?
 
Good Router should not contribute to any significant lag.

Could be that the weather affected you Router more than it affected your ISP.

Routers these days are very inexpensive try a new Router.

I second that

Did you have any lightning storms? I just lost a cable modem and a NIC card due to lightning 2 weeks ago.
 
I've seen some routers do this, but they were new out of the box and not just suddenly turned this way.
Nonetheless, if your connection works fine directly to the modem, then you answered your own question. Fortunately you can find routers pretty cheap these days.
 
I also have been have incredible slow speeds with my internet. I have comcast cable and was routing it through a netgear RP614. I only have one computer on it at the moment... my Xbox is connected to it but i havent had it on for almost a week, and i have second computer, but not monitor right now. So Just one using the router. i ended up plugging the modem into the computer directly and it is back to the speeds i had three weeks ago. Has comcast setup a way so using a router will slow you down?
