Cable router not picking up IP address from comcast

This is odd, happened last night, all the sudden my internet stoped working. Went into my routers address 192.168.1.1... and noticed it wasnt picking up an IP address from comcast. Tried to renew it still nothing. Ok hooked the cable modem directly up to my NIC and everything is working fine, as you can see right now. Then i tried to get the IP from my modem right now and gateway as well as the DNS and tried to put that in through the static option. Still cannot connect through my WAN. Any ideas? Iv had the router for about 2-3 years. Its a Linksys etherfast BEFSR41 which is a 4 port. Its odd that it happened all the sudden.

Some CM's associate themselves with a particular MAC address. You can usually bypass this problem by simply cycling the modem (unplug it for 30 seconds).

If it doesn't work, see if your router can clone the IP address from your computer.

Cycle your router too. I've crashed my router several times before, requiring me to use that "Reset" button on the back.

Try turning off the router and modem for about 30-60 secs. Then power them both back up and try again.

yup, that's been the fix for me for the past five or so years. if that doesn't work, call comcast - they may be having technical issues.

I've got a US Robotics Router and it has problems sometimes getting an IP from Comcast. Usually, turning both the router and cable modem off and restarting at the same time (as others have mentioned) has done the trick.

Other times, it gets the IP almost immediately. 😕
