Cable network

If I have a hub, and two computers. How do I share internet access ? I have a cable modem that connects to the computer via a network cable. Is it possbile to connect the cable modem to the HUB just as if it were a computer ? and let the two other computers share it's internet ? using the same IP address that is.

yeah, you'd need a router..or, you could get 2 NIC cards in the host machine and then use ICS to share the connection. Up to you, they're both easy.

Jock,

There are many many posts here regarding the same question. To answer briefly:

Plug the cable into the uplink (of your hub), make sure that the hub is set as uplink (not normal). Then plug each computer into the others.

Now, when you say "share," I assume that you mean "share one IP." This is done either by getting rid of that hub and buying a router (masks the IP's of each computer), or "purchasing" software that allows you to mask the IP's of each computer.

If you want more help, do some searches... Hope I was of some help.

My ISP allows up to eight PC's on each modem, each with their own IP address at no extra charge. Modem to hub connected with a crossover cable and straight cables from hub to each PC. At boot up each PC is assigned an IP address automatically.

I don't want to pay extra for an extra IP. If I bought one hub. Can I connect the computers to the hub, and a cable modem to the hub as well, and make it work ?
