Cable modems?

alright, i know this is probably the wrong forum, but it seems to be one of the only highly active ones. i am getting cable modem service thru mediacom and they told me that the only modems that are compatible are Motorola surfboard, and RCA - any model. any recommendations?

I've got a Surfboard. Plugged it in and left it; no problems.

BTW, you might get more info in Networking.

I have had two surfboards and they were great. My friends have an RCA and it sux. Get ahold of a Surfboard if you can... Can't really go wrong with Motorola!

i'm gonna get a surfboard. so if mediacom says it is compatible with surfboards 2000-4000, the 4100 should work fine right?

Thanks a lot everyone

If the modem is DOCSIS 1.0 or 1.1 compatible it should work unless your cable provider is using a proprietary standard.

i checked, it is a DOCSIS 1.0. reserved it at best buy B&M for 149.99. a little more than i can get it online, but our cable service is being installed tomorrow and i want it now! 🙂

Surfboard works great here also. Check at Circuit City if you have one nearby - they often have rebate deals that can save you $100. Also if going with Comcast, they often provide $100 rebate + free Quick Connect kit.
