Cable modems

Im looking for cable modems right now. Any suggestions. The only one that seems good to me right now is this one Does anyone know of others that offer high download speed? and by the way, how fast is 38 Mbps in k/sec? I think its 380k/sec but im not sure. Thanks for any help!

It's unlikely that you will find a big variation in speed between cable modems. Cable modems that follow DOCSIS get their configuration settings from the ISP, including throughput caps, and there's nothing you can do about that.

What you should be looking for is models that are dependable and have a good track record, and can live with a lot of traffic without dropping a lot of packets.

And I believe your 38 Mbit is something like 4.7 megs a second?

If I had to recomend one I would say a Cisco 900 or hier , get one that wasn't on DOCSIS and save yourself some bandwith. **

Most cable companies can only use DOCSIS modems....

BTW: The bandwidth cap of cable is not completely set by the ISP....the DOCSIS 1.0 and 1.1 standards only supports up to 10Mbs down and 128Kbps up. Next year DOCSIS 2.0 will be out and allow that to be possibly tripled.
