What are some of the best cable modems on the market today?
Are U.S Robotic cable modems based upon the quality as their desktop dialup modems are? Are they of good quality and performance?

I'm currently using an RCA cable modem, and sometimes it acts a little on the flakey side.

I use a Motorola SurfBoard 4100 on my LAN. Nary a hitch, and it was cheap back when the ISP was offering a rebate. FWIW.

I'm currently using a Motorola Surfboard1000 (forget the exact model) and have had no problems with it. It's the only one I've ever used.

I'm new to this world of broadband (being I'm on my girlfriends cable connection.. was using dialup before)

I'm just trying to gather some information.. I know I may be new... but I think this RCA modem is $hit.. to go along with Adelphia cable internet service

Thanks for those suggestions :) I'll have to add Motorola to the list

Terayon and Toshiba are supposed to be among the fastest performers on OOL cable. I have a SB2100D I got for $50 on ebay about a yr back. NEver a problem and I get 5mbps down/1mbps up. The Teryons and Tosh's are reported to go up to 8-9mbps on OOL, but YMMV!

What is wrong with the RCA Modem? I mean why do you think it is no good?

The three factors in Cable service are.

1. The ISP, i.e. what comes from the service.
2. The Modem
3. The setting of you own computer (hardware, and software).

I think that Modem?s problem amounts to less then 1% of the troubles reported by people here.

Most of the time it is the computer's Network system.

However, you can start by calling the ISP service, and find out what they say, before going and spending on a new Modem.

Your Mileage may vary.
