cable modem?

Guys just had comcast out at the house because internet was down. Looks like my cable modem was bad and wouldn't sync up. They replaced it with a cheap scientific atlanta cable modem. So anyways i'm going to be getting another cable modem to replace the rental jobby which brings up my questions:

1) Is it worth paying the extra currently for the DOCSIS 3 modems? I can't imagine comcast using the extra bandwidth that the docsis 3 brings to the table anytime soon. Is there any other advantages?

2) I've heard in the past to stick with motorola cable modems. Is this still what is recommended or are they all pretty much the same?

thanks,
Ncage

Scrap that DOCSIS 3 is available. I just called comcast but then again i'm pretty happy with my 12mb

1. D3 is most definitely less reliable. you have 4 downlinks - if one or two breaks - they all must retrain. which takes 4 times as long than D2 modems. So you might not notice a 5 second outage happening 5-10 times a day (common) but you might notice a 20 second outage happening 10 times a day.

I get 45/7 off my old D2 modem that's more than i need.
