I'm getting ATT cable but I don't want to lease a cable modem.
What should I consider when I purchase a cable modem?
Any recommended brand?

Thanks

Check with ATT and see what models they will support.

Post that list and we can recommend one of those.

Just returned my RCA cable modem to ATT and went out to BestBuy and picked up the same one for $99 after MIR. I also know people using the Linksys cable modem without problems. Price was the same when I looked, so I stuck with the brand that ATT gave me to start with. Don't really know which would be better in the long run....

I just purchased the Motorola SB-4100 on line at EstoreToGo.COM, INC. for $107. plus shipping........... for my ATT cable hook-up tomorrow.............

The local Best Buy was out-of-stock on them for $199. and I heard from more than one person that these were rated the best?

I don't really know if they are or not, but I like the "Standby" button feature and the catchy "SURFboard" handle!
It also sports an internal power supply (I'm running out of recepticle space).
Also boasts of "DOCSIS" future up-grade ability ..............???
Looks like most of the new models are USB or LAN capable now..........

Link to ATT's approved cable modems.

There is also a new D-Link DCM-200 available with USB/LAN options.

Another vote for surfboard.

You may want to check out rebates and stuff. I waited until my ISP offered a rebate on a modem purchase. The MIR was about $100 or so. :)
