Cable Modem Speeds Droping Off

I have attbi and I have been playing around with the tweaks that are posted on the net.
I have the cable modem hooked up to a router which I have hooked my NIC up to.

The speeds start off fine but then seem to drop as the file transfers progress.
I'm transfering files via FTP so its not that.

Any ideas of how to stop the speeds from dropping?

first things first, what kind of sustained speeds are you getting on your attbi connection?

start off at 22k/s for a server in Denmark
Then drop off after a few minutes until fail

On Tucows and such I can get in the 100k/s then fails

go here, use the speed test under tools and this will give you a better test to basis your findings from. It could be the server(s) you are downloading from are limiting you and not your cable modem.

From DSLREPORTS.com

2002-10-22 19:55:08 EST: 1111 / 274
Your download speed : 1111986 bps, or 1111 kbps. A 135.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 274914 bps, or 274 kbps.

I know this is about what I had expected however its that these speeds deteriorate
after a few minutes until the connection stalls such as in hotline or ftp or download
from a http site..

Any ideas as to why?

My test results... (Adelphia Powerlink)

2002-10-23 08:09:02 EST: 2528 / 123
Your download speed : 2528289 bps, or 2528 kbps.
A 308.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 123666 bps, or 123 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

I am also curious as to which "tweaks" that you tried.

I've narrowed it down to it being my linksys router.
Everything works fine without it there and I have a
direct connection to the modem.

Any ideas what
could be causing this?

Upgrade the firmware of the Linksys router. Older firmware are known to slow down the connection or even freeze it.

Not the firmware. Have already upgraded that.

The only main problem is that the connection between my girlfriends computer
running first class gives out when trying to connect to her schools server.

Any ideas?
