Cable modem questions

I recently notified my provider (@home) that I was switching over to a new cable modem (RCA), they took the new serial # and MACID and said it should be functional in a couple days. But it's been a little over a week now and it still can't find any kind of cable connection. When I connect back the old modem, it recognizes the cable connection almost immediately but I am unable to access anything on the net. According to Comcast, my account is already provisioned for the new modem, but wouldn't the old modem no longer be able to find a connection in that case? Under network properties, Comcast had me change my computer name, and under TCP/IP, IP address is set to auto, and everything else left DISABLED or blank per their instructions. I notice under WINIPCFG my IP address is different now but Comcast says it's correct. They said they were unable to ping my gateway though, they had me power cycle both modems, disable my firewall, "push an update file" or something on my modem, and all sorts of other things but no go. They also verified the new serial and MACID several times. I even tried my original IP and computer name settings but it just doesn't work anymore. They finally gave up and told me they were sending a tech out but it's going to be a couple weeks, so does anyone have any other settings or things I could try? I thought it could be the modem, so I exchanged it for another, gave the new serial and MACID again, but it still can't find any cable connection!

Thanks for any suggestions!

This may or may not help, but it might be worth a shot:

When you have your setting as they said it should be, and you get an IP, release the IP to the DHCP server by using WINIPCFG, then turn off your computer and cablemodem. Leave it off for about 30 mins to an hour, to make sure all the ARP caches are empty and turn on your cablemodem again and boot your computer. This procedure usually fixes most similar problems overhere, but as overhere means outside the US, i have no idea how much luck you will have with it.
