Cable Modem Question

It's late. RCN customer service is closed... So I figured this would be the next best place to ask.

My dad wants to get a 2nd cable modem for our house (don't ask why, we have a router, but it's a long story)... Anyway, does anyone know if high speed companies offer discounts for the 2nd account?

Hint....it's called a "router" or a "switch". Save yourself the monthly cost and just split the connection, geez. Hell, go wireless if wired is too hard to do in the house.

he said he has a router.....jackass

My brother and I each have seperate modems and ip addresses. I was going to share my connection with him but I didn't want him stealing my bandwidth or want to have to deal with the problems routers bring.

I get 7000 megabits down and 950 up. Optimum Online is great.

Speakeasy speed test

Test running..........
** Speed 7163(down)/948(up) kbps **
(At least 143 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

Oops not 7000 megabits, 7 megabits or 7000kbps. Heh.

Optimum online has a 10meg/1meg cap.

It must be a long story because they are going ot split your bandwidth for that second modem anyway, unless they charge you another $50.00 a month and you demand a second line,...then guess what,.. it's still sharing your bandwidth!
It's called BROADBAND for a reason, it's a very large band and you share it with everyone within a few mile radius! Learn about the actual service and save yourself some $$$, because either way it comes out the same, no one on cable has a dedicated line.

thats not why it's called broadband.... it's "broad" think about that... then think "band" and were not talking music were talking frequency.. broad is wide, it's many, it's emcompassing. cable is broadband due to the fact that it uses many bands of RF(radio frequency). i think you need to "learn" before cutting on someone with the wrong info. people on cable CAN have dedicated lines,(not litereally, but in dedicated bandwidth) thier currently a few technolgys that support this with more advanced ones on the way.

i'm not sure if RCN charges more for a second modem on the same account, but @home used to charge the exact same amout times two.(exactly like it it was two seperate accounts) with no deal or rebate.
