cable modem question

i am planning to buy a new cable modem. i'm already pretty much set on the motorola surfboard series modems. my question is whether i should get the SB5101 or the SB5120. are there any differences? which is more reliable

the difference seems to be a number and a buck and a quarter. I'd go with the SB5120 I figure 120 > 101 and you save a $1.25 which is about half this shipping from newegg.

On second though I found something interesting on newegg's site, the 101 can support twice the number of users the 120 can, at least that is what it says in the specs...curious. wonder if that is true...

Supports up to 63 computers on a single head (whatever that means)

SB5120
Supports up to 32 users
There are also claims this modem 'seems faster' then the 101 but that may be perception.

Between the 101, 110, 120, they change ports they change the location of the power supply and they switching Chipset.

Nevertheless, this is all "Games" functionally there is No difference all you need is a penny and a knowledge how to Toss/flip.

I'd go with what your ISP supports/recommends. These are the one they use for testing and setting their equipment. This is why I ALWAYS recommend getting the modem from your ISP, if there is a problem it's their problem.

Went from a 5100 to a 5101 supplied by my cable company and the difference was night and day, like 400kbps faster. Cost a bit more from the cable company, but as said, if you have problems, it falls into the lap of the cable company vs, the blame the other game.

On another thread here, I have read that 5101 is better because of something about the chip or setup.

I find that there is often so much variance between two modems of the same model that its not often useful to compare different model numbers -- its just hit-or-miss and luck-of-the-draw and more-cliches-here.
