Cable modem purchase?

I have RoadRunner cable service. I currently use their Toshiba PC1100 cable modem which is pretty nice. However, I want to purchase my own and I don't know if I should get the Toshiba or the 3com Officeconnect 3CR29210 Cable Modem. Anyone have experience with either and want to make suggestions? I want to stay under $250 for whatever I choose, both of which these are.
 
If you buy your cable modem, your ISP will probably not stage it for you. I work at an ISP and any of our customers that buy cable modems, we will not stage them to work on our network for them. We do not want to be repsonsible for a customer's property. My advice would be to stick with the Toshiba and just pay the small monthly fee.
 
I know that this statement has been heard time and again, but I am a seasoned network/systems administrator. Why should I pay $15/mo. for a modem when I can buy it outright. In just a year and a quarter, I will have paid for the modem already anyhow. Setup and/or installation is not an issue. I mess with Cisco 5500 and Cisco 6000 series switches and Cisco 2500 and 2600 routers all the time, a DOCSIS compliant cable modem pales in comparison to the complexity of those devices. Any opinions on either modem from personal experience?
 
I have Road Runner cable service and have the 3Com Officeconnect modem you refer to. I have had it for nearly 6 months and could not be happier with it. At the time I purchased it, 3 other friends, also on Road Runner, bought this modem and none of them have had any problems what so ever. I have also recommended this modem to others at work who have also purchased it and had no problems. My modem is connected to a Netgear RT314 router and the pair work flawlessly together.

I believe this speaks for itself and the 3Com is the one I think you should get.
