Cable Modem Problem

Ok, I have a new computer I built with a ASUS AV8 Deluxe mobo. It was at my friends house with his DSL and the net worked fine. I bring it home and hook it up to my Motorolla Surfboard cable modem., and it doesnt connect to the net.... the DHCP wont assign this new computer an IP, wtf! I hook up this other computer and it works fine.... what should I do?>
 
is it the same DSL service that both of you are sharing? a lot of companies need an actual technician to call them and activate the DSL modem using a specific number that is on the modem itself.
 
yeah, did that...I know the problem is that the DHCP wont assign this computer an IP address... and ive tried both ethernet and USB connection from the modem

no no, He has dsl, I have Cable internet...he set it up at his house. and now I got it at home
 
Perhaps your cable provider uses MAC address to deny/allow people access on the network. Clone your MAC address to match the original computer.
 
Chances are your Cable company is doing MAC Address filtering and you need to call them and give them your new MAC address - RR does that here in central florida.

Not sure, that might be it, but like, both my laptop and original desktop works on the modem...

Weird... I dunno then. I couldn't get my router on the comcast cable until I cloned its mac address to match my computer. It was a pain in the ass to setup.
