I just moved up to Indiana and am trying to get Comcast@Home service in my new apartmnet. They're pretty much monkeying me around and I can't get a straight answer from tech support nor the local office. Tech support tells me that the power level on my modem isn't any good, local office tells me I can't get online because I don't have the service. But when I call tech support they're able to find my account, phone number, and address.
The modem gets an IP from the DHCP server (10.86.x.x.) and Tier 2 Support tells me they can ping it, but I can't get anywhere on the internet. They go on to tell me that it's a problem with the power level on my modem. So I setup my computer to have an internal IP so that I can view the web interface for the modem (Motorola/GI Surfboard SB4100 that I purchased from Best Buy... but that's another story).
My downstream power level is abount -11dBmV and upstream is around 54dBmV. I think those are the right units, I left my printout of the page at home and I'm at my mom's house on <gasp> dialup -- don't have a phone line in my apartment, was planning on using the cable modem for internet and only have a cell phone. Do those numbers sound way off? Is there any way to improve them using maybe a signal booster from Radio Shack?
Tech support can't schedule a tech because of some billing switchover crap here, local office can only send out someone to do a professional installation for me -- in two weeks.
Any ideas?
