cable modem.... off topic... sorry

sorry about that.. but i didnt know where else to put it. is cable internet alot better then a reg 56k dial up? the cable service im looking into is 256k/64k (down/up). is that any good?

Well its not really 20-50 times faster, if you were correct on your casing for the "k" and you meant kiloBITS, then all your getting is 32KB. and only around 8KB upload bandwith. Where do you live? And what cable company? How much a month?

256k would be about 5 times faster than a regular 56k connection. 49.95 is a little high but since that is the only available broadband connection, I'd recommend getting it.

Wow they are pretty high. But any cable connection is going to be better then the 56k. I always tell friends that ask me if it is worth it that it depends on how much they use the internet. If you only use it for maybe a few hours a week to get mail and look up the weather then I tell them that it may not be worth the extra $10 - $20 a month. However, my Dad was having problems connecting to his ISP all of the time and I talked into getting cable, now he is using the internet more because it is faster and is always connected. You won't tie up the phone line.

It is too bad that you do not have more options in Broad Band but it is better then nothing, and 56k.

Yes it is much better than 56k,Wik covered it well on his advice for his dad.Just remember once you try it you can never go back.😉
