Cable Modem Not Working..

My cable modem works fine in my main computer, its a samsung that connects using rj-45 to a nic card inside the computer. I unplugged the rj-45 cable from my main, plugged it into my old computer that is running win98se, with a pci nic card. I unplug the cable modem, plugged it back in. Goto start menu, run, winipcfg, hit release, then renew. Nothing. It still has the local 162. address. In nic options I have tcp/ip installed, and its set to get ip from server just like my primary computer. When i plug the cable modem back into my main computer it works fine. What do I need to do to get it to work on my secondary computer? I'd call tech support, but their closed and I need to get this thing running tonight.
