Cable Modem + Linksys Switch + 2 Computer = Network?

Hey all,

I just wired up my house. Cable modem company won't let me have another IP, so I need to share between two computers. I know with Sygate's program, I can do it with 2 NIC cards in my "server." Can I use Sygate, or some other way to share the connection? The switch works for all basic networking, file sharing etc, but not for Internet.

BTW, I know a router will do this, but I really don't want to buy any more equipment.

Please help,
thanks.😕

By the way, I'm using windows 98 SE on both systems.

I read this from an earlier post by Quad, does this apply to me, and what does it mean?:
"if you don't want to spend the extra money for a router, you can get a switch and set up one of your existing computers as a proxy or NAT router. this is a lot cheaper, but more inconvenient"

Thanks.

To buy Sygate (BTW great product), you will have to spend about $25.

To buy a Router (there are some on sale this week) you will have to spend $45-$50.

For $20-$25 (one tank of Gas for middle size car) difference, you get an easy to configure Gizmo.

You Internet connection will be smoother(and somewhat faster).

You get a Hardware Firewall.

With some Routers, you even get a Printer Server for the price.

Already bought the switch though, its brand new, but it wasn't the wrong buy, I still need it.
Sygate, by the way is free, I believe.

thanks for the help.
