Cable modem for 2 computers.

I use a Motorola SB4101 Surfboard Cable modem. I would like to know if there is a way to have two separate computers run this modem, and if they could both do it at once. It has an ethernet/CAT5 connection in the back, if that helps. I dont want to have to use two modems as I'm sure my cable provider woudl either have a fit, or make me pay more.

May be this can Help.

Ignore the prices in the links above. The same or similar hardware can be found for 60%-90% less.

Then you buy a cable/DSL Router.

You plug every thing like this.

Then you configure the Network on each computer.

And finally you set the sharing.

Okay, so essentially, I just plug the Modem into the router's out port, and all the computers into the in-port, and thats it?

I dont really want shared files, or anything of the sort, I just want the things to have a universal connection to the internet.

Yes

Well, like it or not you're going to have the capability...but if you really insist on not sharing files, just don't setup your computer to do it. 😉

The router will do that for you.
