Cable modem compatibility?

I have a Lancity (the one with fins - LCP), which i got with rogers@home connection in june 1999. lately its has been giving me a lot of problems. So i switched it with a Terayon TJ 615 cable modem that i had lying around. And it worked great. But unfortunately i have to return Terayon modem to its owner 😛. I was hoping to replace this one with Motorola Surfboard SB3100 modem that i also have lying about. But when i poped that one in, it wouldnt work.

Do i need to install something extra? or is that modem not compatible with my version of @home?

Thanx for any info

EDIT: Fixed all the modem links

I believe you can call rogers and get them to replace your cable modem. And rogers just switched servers from @Home to their own servers. So this might be the cause of some incompatibility with the older motorola modems.

both the motorola and terayon are both DOCSIS... so the SB3100 should work....

why it doesn't work.... lemme guess that TJ615 is subbed to your buddies account? well since the motorola either isn't subbed or is on a disabled account the CMTS will not give it permission to work.

Not really sure what u mean.....technically speaking..........but i think you r right. The modem TJ615 was working on my bros account before he moved. But his account is still active. So if i understand u correctly, rogers network is accepting it cause its IP is already configured while the motorola is an outside modem so i need to let rogers know that i have that modem so they can configure it?
