Here's the prob. I have a Linksys Router in WIn98SE, and it is a headache for some things, so I plugged my cable modem back into my D-Link nic,(with a 3com as secondary for lan) and am using the Linksys as a Hub only to my other pc. Using Sygate, my second pc gets onto the web fine, but they cannot see each other. If i set my nic for lan settings,(with a 196.168 ip, they see each other, but no 'net. I notice when i change the settings of one nic, the other one changes too, how can i get around that? Do i need the d-link to obtain auto for modem, but 3com to specify an ip for my lan.
any assistance would be much appreciated.

Here is one way to test it: If you know the address assigned to the cable modem, use that for the Dlink nic. Then assign fixed address to the other 2 nics in the same subnet. Make sure all the workgroups associated with each nic match.

that is totally normal and here's why:
Those 2 ips are not compatible. All you need to do and the easiest way is to just install netbeui since that gets around the ip/subnet issue.
