Cable Internet Users - what's your typical UPLOAD speed?*EDITED-Getting Roadrunner next week!*

I have decided that I can live with not having a static IP, especially if the IP doesn't change very often, ala cable. What I really want is a faster upload speed for my FTP server and soon to be webserver.

Thinking about getting Roadrunner cable, but I'm concerned about upload speed.

If you are currently a cable user, please tell me what your typical upload speeds are. Thanks.

*EDIT*
I have decided to say goodbye to SWBell DSL. They have been very good. My only complaints are:

1. $50/mo
2. I'm too far away to upgrade to 1.5/256 (not their fault on this one)
3. Base upload speed only 128kbps (see #2, I tried, but too far away

So off to RR I go. Hoping to have a good experience. Upload for RR is capped at 384kbps; a substantial increase.

I have never ran a server or FTP

I use Time Warner Road Runner

$45 a month

I usually get over 200K downloads if the server is good

256Kbps. Most high speed internet isps upload speed is 128 to 384Kbps. Have not seen many higher excepy OOL! 1 Mbps upload speed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most people on OOL i talk to get 900Kbps 24/7 which is still over 100 KB/sec (KB= Kilo Bytes)!!!! Whoever has OOL cable modem isp is very lucky. Plus they have the fastest download speed out of like all the cable modem and high speed internet isps out there. 10 Mbps. Most OOL users get from 5 to 8.5 Mbps. Heck i would take 5 Mbps download and 500Kbps upload for the $30 to $45 a month OOL users pay for such a great, fast, high quality, very very low ping connection. I mean there pings are like 9 to 20 ms 24/7. Very stable pings. They can ping a site and most of the time the traceroute has no higher number than 35 ms. Even the end hop is 35ms or less. Not on every site but a lot of them. And thats sites with 16 to 18 hops maybe sometimes more. Now i think you can tell i want OOL cable modem isp. I wish i could get it. I am jealous but i am happy there is at least one high speed internet isp to do it right out there. But then again there is the other two high speed internet isps i know of that offer better speed than OOL :) They offer 100Mbps download and upload for one and the other offers 10 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload :) They are around $40 to $60 month so about the same price to alittle more than OOL. If i remember right the bandwidth is now shared on either of these new high speed internet access. Its all your bandwidth. Both have pretty cool networks i would say. I can not get those two either here but i wish i could. I guess if i move i could. Heck i am sure there are people out there that move just to get these better high speed internet isp. I don't blame them one bit either.

My downloads rock, almost like a T1, but uploads are limited to around 360 Kbps. This is with Road Runner in Minneapolis.

Holy crap! If I could get a 360kbps upload, I'd gladly pay $50 a month for it. Right now, my upload is about 135kbps...suck@ss. :(

I need to see what kind of offers RR has in my city...SWBell may be losing a customer.

Oh, one other thing; when they tapped (split) your cable line for the line to the modem, did your TV picture deteriorate any? My GF's did; her picture is noticeably worse than before she got cable internet.

How many times was the cable split before the tv? I have a tv in the same room as our cable modem and the cable is split, picture is fine. I get 128 uploads here.

OOL cable modem isp has a average of 100KB/sec + 24/7 (KB= Kilo bytes),WOW has 10 Mbps upload speed, and Switchpoint has 100Mbps upload speed. They all cost $30 to $60 a month.

The connection to her bedroom is split off the one to the living room. So twice, I guess.

I just signed up for RoadRunner!!!!! They'll be installing next week. If I can get 200-300kbps up, I'll be happy.

This is right off their page:

High speed Internet access - up to 2000 Kbps or more to you and 300 Kbps away from you

That would be ideal for me.

Gotta call SWBell and cancel. Thanks guys. Hopefully, I'll be happy.

With RR, the upstream is 384kbs, which translates to around 42-45k/sec for an upload.

Insight Cable.

They recently capped upload at 150kbps. In real life it's around 120. :(

My download rocks at 2800-3000kbps, though :)

And my 100 Mbps upload and download translates to max 12500KB/sec (KB=Kilo Bytes) So 12.5 MB sec (MB= Mega Bytes)
But it should be at least half of that which is still fine.

I have Cox, and I get capped at 300-400KB/s down, and 30-40KB/s up
and what you can try to do is to for the tv thing is to get a box (can't remember the name of it...) that amplifies the signal....it's basically a small box with coax. in and coax. out and it makes the signal stronger so that it will keep the same quality for a longer distance..
