Cable Gateway seems to be the bottleneck

Ok, first of all, I am very illiterate with networking terms so bare with me.

I've posted a few threads asking some questions about CAT6 cables, reducing the wireless bandwidth for better internet gaming performance.. My Cable Gateway is a Linksys WCG 200. It has 4 hardwire ports and Wireless G access, 10/100.

Is there a better/faster Cable Gateway similar to my current one that I can buy?

Thanks,

networking newb

No way to tell from what you asked.

What service? What speeds? Doing peer to peer? Docsis 2, 3? Why do you think it is 'slow'?

Looking at the a Linksys WCG 200 data sheet there is No reason to believe that another Gateway/Router would affect any Gaming.

There are world class Gamers with 3Mb/sec., or less Speed" on DSL and low cable bandwidth.

P.S. Lucky for you there is No high positive correlation between Gaming capacity and any significant indicator to successful life.;) -

I've played UT III for a while now and have gone through several cpus ranging from a 3Ghz wolfdale, a 4Ghz Yorkfield, to a stock i7 920 and all have had the same issues. My FPS are fine: dips in the 80's, avg 125 (capped) But the one thing that does make a difference is turning off my wireless part of my Gateway... and the difference is noticed in both UT III & COD:WAW and I'm also in tune with how the servers perform.... but at any rate, thank you all for your help.

Things that come to my mind.

Is you wireless secured?

If you scan wireless networks in your area do you see a lot and are they on the same channel as yours?

And something that was just wired i used to have happen. I had a WRT54g(faoctory bios) and a early model 2.4ghz portable phone. Any time the 2.4ghz phone was used it would lockup the WRT54g

It's just the other family members laptop and in the gateways web pg i have the 'Restrict wireless network access to the listed clients' set to her physical address.

Yes I have it set to the maximum encryption level.

Basic Data rate = min

Control TX rate = min

Beacon interval = 100ms

DTIM interval = 3ms

Fragmentation Threshold = 2346

RTS Threshold = 2347
