Ugh. This weather has kept me inside so much I am bouncing off the walls. Its crazy. I'm planning on possibly taking the gf and her kid to Frontier Town in Maryland this summer, and I'd like to visit High Point State Park in North Jersey too. But overall I just want the weather to start improving so I can get outside to hike, bike, etc. Argh I'm going batshit crazy here.

What are your plans for when better weather gets here?

Cabin fever doesn't seem to affect me but many of my co-workers are getting terribly irritable. Short tempers in many meetings, every little thing is ticking people off. We had the second-coldest February in history, including about 5-6 days where we set record low temps for the date (and another one likely tonight). This morning had bad road conditions and I'm hearing another litany of "today was the worst commute ever".

Thankfully temps in the 40's this weekend, maybe people will settle down some (almost wrote "chill out", that would have been a poor choice of words!).

I get out more in the winter than any other season. This is perfect skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, snowmobiling weather. Never had cabin fever in the winter.

February is my motor sports month, as the Harrisburg Farm Show hosts both a car show and Motorama over that month. With those out of the way, I am now getting antsy about getting in a ride on my ATV this month. With 5"-8" forecast today, the only riding I will get will be in my driveway with the plow attached.

I am looking at picking up a gently used 23' toy hauler in a few years so I can get the family switched from the godawful trips to the beach to some trips into the woods of PA instead. So many places to camp around me, and I love being in the woods.

Probably heading over to the ice caves this weekend.

This summer, not sure on our plans yet. Porcupine mountains, bwca, north shore hiking trail.

Hey KDOG!

I know what you mean (my poor Outback camper is buried under 2 feet of snow!) I am still making plans for this upcoming season (cannot WAIT to get out and camp!) One of these days we need to get together at the same campground.

Cabin fever has never really been a problem with me. I can be so sublimely happy sitting in a comfortable chair reading a good book, watching a movie, or playing a video game that getting out and about has never seemed necessary. There are enough of the things I love for me to never run out and need to travel outside seeking entertainment. I do go on trips and outdoor activities with people from time to time, and I always seem to be terribly bored by it. I guess I just don't get the appeal.

Do you mean the Jersey shore? I know what you mean. I live there basically and I go the other way for fun. Ugh. The crowds. The 50 mile traffic jams....Why do people bother with the beach? I've also thought of camping at/near where ever the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon is, or go to Ricketts Glen State Park. And the Adirondacks or some other place in the pretty areas of NY.

Its not so much the snow itself keeping me in, it's the "yucky stuff" and the crazy bitter cold we've been having. I like snow (to a point) and like to go out in it at times.

SSCCOOOOBBBB! Yeah really
.. mine still tarped up etc. I actually don't know when I'm going to Frontier Town or even if I'm actually going. You stay at Fort Whaley when you go there right?

I've been doing up my truck some lately, putting a suspension lift on, getting ready for new nice tires, looking at a nice roof rack for carrying kayaks etc. Also going to pick up a decent mountainbike/hybrid sometime soon as well.

Ah....can't wait.

Put on a jacket + glove + hat = go outside and play

This winter has been filled with lots of really fantastic weather. Lots of sunshine for all you daywalkers... And beautiful evenings with the moon reflecting upon the snow and ice. Fantastic! I really hope we get at least 1 more good snow before all this is over and we have to deal with lenghty hours of daylight and uncomfortable hot weather. I love the winter, it is the best.

People who get cabin fever in the winter piss me off. It's motherfucking 10 degrees outside, the roads are solid sheets of ice, the wind is blowing 40mph, and you take your god damned toddlers out to go eat because you're "bored at home".

Fucker, I bet you have 5 iPads, 4 LCD tvs, 3 Xboxes, 2 playstations, and at least one bed. FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO FUCKING DO.

You know the best feeling in the world? Sweating from some good hard work outside.

You know the worst feeling in the world? Sweating inside of a jacket becoming oily and slick as hell from good hard work outside.

The best feeling in the world is being cool and dry indoors. I'll take being cool and dry outdoors as a backup to that. I love it when it's cold enough that most of the moisture has been wrung out of the air, and going outdoors doesn't feel like I'm slogging through a body temperature soup. I love it when there are no Mosquitos or wasps and no mad chirping, clucking, crying, or buzzing of animals looking to fuck each other. Winter was made for me, or I for it.

no, being too hot is the worst feeling in the world.

Also, you should not sweat in a jacket, you should unzip the jacket if you are getting warm, or remove your outer most layer.

The great thing about winter, is that you do not have to sweat to regulate your body temperature, you simply strip a layer here and there until you reach equlibrium.

You can do hard work, and then you do not need a shower right away, because you are still clean and no not smell any worse than when you started the work.

You still sweat. You always sweat, it's natural for most people. If there is not enough dry air in contact with the skin to evaporate it, you get beaded sweat. If you take off enough layers to dry off after you've gotten sweaty, you now have a cold wet sweat.

I sweat liberally in the summer though. I chug enough water so my body never runs low and I'm like a tank in the summer. Also, busting your knuckles on something doesn't make you want to kill someone.

That's generally true for me as well. But as a severe asthmatic the level of effort (medication, preparation ect) to keep myself level in winter is a whole statosphere away of what's required in the summer. Cold air is a nightmare for me to work with, especially below 0.
