CA Gov. Jerry Brown Vetoes Draconian Gun Laws

Woohoo! Thank you Jerry.

SB374 would have basically banned all rifles with a detachable magazine. It would have been overturned eventually, but thankfully we don't have to go down that road (at least this year)

This isn't possible because he is a Democrat and everyone knows Democrats are gun-grabbing authoritarians. All they care about is expanding government and they would never block a great opportunity like this.

"enough to warrant this infringement on gun owners' rights."

Has to be the scariest part of the whole letter.

At least he decided to veto this abomination.

I haven't lived in California for a long time, but I am glad that they seem to have a rational governor.

Yal just have to do something about your senator situation now.

That fact that this bill made it all the way to the Governors desk speaks volumes about CA Democrats and pretty much legitimizes your concerns. Please stop making yourself look like an idiot...it's painful to watch.

It could also be that the bill was unequivocally unconstitutional and would have never, ever stood a chance to pass muster if bubbled up through the Supreme Court ranks. 😀

That doesn't stop other bills from being signed/made into law.

He still signed some bad ones today, and there will be a court fight.

Yeah... he's saying "you dogs can keep your scraps - but I can take even those away when I feel like it"

Why is that the scariest part? I thought that was the most refreshing part, frankly. Every law is going to infringe on somebody's rights in some way. We need to balance the protections government offers against the rights it infringes upon in every piece of legislation, and I'm glad that Brown recognizes that. I mean, hell, you could argue that not allowing civilians to own vulcan cannons is an infringement on the rights of gun owners, but it's one we've justified due to public health concerns. It's when legislators ignore this balance (as they did in attempting to ban every rifle in California) when you should find it scary, not when someone calls them on it.

Don't know the veracity of the claims in his letter, as I don't give two shits about gun laws generally, but Brown has always been and continues to be a fantastic governor.

even a broken clock is right twice a day. it's hard to consider him a "rational" governor when you consider what else he's done.

at least he vetoed this. but honestly, this state is fucked.

I'm sorry, but I will not stand for this blatant attempt by some DINO to lend credibility to the ludicrous idea that not all liberals are out to for one thing only. Namely, to piss on our constitutional rights.

Don't you just hate it when stereotypes don't comply with your worldview?

Those Dems have some nerve not being a homogenous group!
