CA Anti-Virus 2007 with 2GB USB Flash Drive
CA delivers in innovative ways. Install our CA Anti-Virus (on up to 3 PCs) from the Ultra USB flash drive. Then, reuse the drive ? with up to 2GB of memory ? for transferring and storing your files anytime, anywhere. If you?re unprotected, viruses can invade through email, downloads, instant messages, and even web pages. From there, they can erase your files, damage your hard drive, and destroy the information you value most: photos, music, documents, and more. CA Anti-Virus provides comprehensive protection against viruses, worms and Trojan horse programs. CA, formerly Computer Associates, provides software to 98% of Fortune 500 companies ? which are among the world?s largest ? and millions of home users worldwide

Some will balk at a $50 rebate from Tiger Direct, but assuming you get the rebate this is a nice deal. That USB drive sure is small. Anyone have the drive that can comment on its quality/durability?

So if you have another anti virus program, your in. The only way to lose is if you have no anti virus at all.

I used the Computer Accosiates stand alone AV for over 18 months. Perfect little application. 4 mb download. Now with Vista out there, the new standalone product is 7 mb, IIRC.

I recommend this one.

i actually work with the SDKs of CA AV at work. It is an excellent virus scanner, very low over head, doesnt use up a lot of resources etc.

Free is good, but crappy security software is not. I'm not sure how some of you can recommend this POS product. 😛 For those that aren't aware, AV-Comparitives is one of the most respected independent review sites. CA 2007 scored 65% on the March 2007 test, and it (would of) failed to reach a certification level if they were allowed to take part in the Feb. comparitive.

MS Onecare is pretty lousy and it managed to score 82%. I'd use AVG free over CA any day, and hopefully those that "swear" by CA keep an open mind and switch to a better product. I apologize in advance if some people consider this a thread crap, but I would be doing an injustice if I didn't chime in. :music:

I don't really think its that fair a comparison. The lowest parts were in malware and Other OS. I think the reason it doesnt do fantastically on those, is you'd probably havfe to buy CA PestPatrol for malware.

That said, I'd say its a lot better than the truly free stuff with no rebates like say sophos.

I have the free AVG...and I am not the only one here like this...

CA antivirus is free with DSL from AT&T, at least in my area. No need to mess around with rebates, especially with rebates from an entity with Tiger Direct's reputation.

Years ago, I hated CA but I've been using this now for over a year with no problems.

Same. Been using CA antivirus for the past year and no problems yet. But when it expires in about 20 days I'll be using Kaspersky since it was free after MIRs.

Gotta love free AV software.
