uhhhh.... a kentsfield by design is 2 conroes stamped together on a single PCB.

So how the heck did you come up with this conclusion thats its not a C2D?

A Kentsfield is most definitely a C2D. Maybe not from a financial standpoint, but i definitely think its one from a technical standpoint. What else you going to call a kentsfield. C4Q?

Anyhow, if anyone is interested in Q's I would most likely hold off until september. Word has it so far, the G0 steppings are monsters.

First release of Q6600 /w g0 stepping is estimated in September. Besides that, good luck getting a high overclocking quad. There nowhere near easy to overclock. Its definitely much harder then any C2D chip or AMD chip ive touched.

Core 2 Duo are dual core processors, Core 2 Quad are quad core processors....why is this so hard to grasp?

I could probably wait until sept for a Q6600 if it was worth it. How much more OC potential will they have? Where did you get your info?

That article discusses the July cuts. I think the news from the OP linked article is additional cuts in September.

Then again I may just be asleep.

June 12 (Bloomberg) -- Intel Corp., the world's largest chipmaker, plans to slash the price of some processors over the next three months to regain market share from Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

The company will cut prices of its Core 2 Quad processor by 50 percent on July 22,

Both articles stated July 22. It seems that every year either AMD or Intel Slash prices on July 22nd or 23rd. (Last year AMD did on 23rd of July) And a year or two before that, it was one of the two giants whom cut prices on (I think) 22,23, or 24th of July.

A paragraph further down in the article which states;

Intel also told customers it plans to reduce prices of some Core 2 Duo chips by 24 percent to 32 percent on Sept. 2, according to the document. The company doesn't disclose how much of total sales the chip accounts for.

Though, unlike some in this thread, I don't read this to mean a second round of cuts in the Quad core chips.

Why is there so much confusion???

In July 22nd there will be price cuts to the Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad line along with a few new releases.

Core 2 Duo E6320/E6420 as well as E6600/E6700 also become redundant at this point too many SKU's and will probably "discontinued" as there is no more room. With the E6550 at $163 and the E4400 at $133 there just isn't enough room in a $33 spread for an additional 2 SKU's what will likely happen is that the 1066FSB processor will just retain their pricing and no longer receive any more cuts.

The September 2nd 2007 price cuts of 24-32% sound very interesting it probably means the E6850 is dropping to $183 and the E6750 will drop to $163, and at $133 an E4600 won't be too far behind to take the place at $133. At least this is my extrapolation on the issue.

That way the Quad's and Dual's won't overlap and the Quad get free reign at $266 and higher. Since their current isn't a mention of Core 2 Quad price drops just yet, with the price cuts in July 22nd on the Quad's Intel is in good enough shape to not make any more changes to that sector until they see what Agena can do around Christmas time. $266 is already plenty cheap for a Quad form my perspective.

Today's Fry's Ad (Dallas/Ft Worth) has :

Retail Intel E4300
w/ECS PT890T-A Mobo

$119!!

Wheee :D I know that mobo isn't too good, but it's basically free @ that price. Could probably sell it on ebay for $30 easy.

I think that agena will be competitive with and perhaps even better than c2d but will probably fall a little short of penryn. The bad news for amd is that, even if they somehow do get ahead of penryn, they have nehalem waiting in the wings. The good news for us is that, assuming amd beats penryn, intel will come out with nehalem as soon as possible. Go amd!
